Timing belts
In various industries for the operation of machines and mechanisms apply drive belts. They allow you to transfer the rotational moment between the shafts and have several advantages over chains.
In one of the previous articles, we considered the V-belts of the classic (normal) section. Today we will talk about other, not less popular - toothed belts.
On a structure the gear belt differs nothing from classical. At the base of the belt - the carrier layer (cord) of polyester or steel filaments. The cord is closed with a polyurethane layer: a smooth base on the one hand and teeth on the other.
Toothed belts have a number of advantages compared with the classic. They work without lubrication, are easy to install and repair. Even at high speeds, the noise level remains low. It should also be noted that the toothed belt has a greater durability than the smooth. Their use is rational with intermittent loads, as the coupling of the teeth of the belt and pulley is more reliable and prevents slipping. Toothed belts have anti-static properties and repel dust, water and oil well. They operate in a wide range of temperatures: from -20 ° C to + 100 ° C.
When selecting a toothed belt, you must know the step between the teeth and their profile. Toothed belts are trapezoidal and semicircular profile.
Toothed and classic belts can be interchanged, but only if they fit on a pulley without teeth. In this case, the toothed belt "folds" on the pulley, its teeth are pressed against each other and it works just like a smooth one. If the pulley has teeth, then only a toothed belt is used, providing a reliable grip.
